Description

This 3.5 x 6 sterling silver cigarette box is inscribed on the front lower tray Offizierkorps der Auflärungsgruppe 122, 1.6.39 - 30.9.40 was sold by Tom Wittmann a couple of years ago for $1250.  The dates most likely represent the service dates of an officer who left the unit, and to whom this box was presented.  During this period, the unit flew in the Polish campaign, flew missions over the North Sea along the coast of England, Scotland and France, as well as the English Channel.  The unit also flew over France and Belgium.  The box is further engraved with what is either an Iron Cross or a Knight's Cross, to the left of the verbiage.  A really neat piece.
