This extensive group represents documents and awards pertaining to Oberleutnant Walter Siefert, who received the German Cross on 8 December 1942. The group consists of the 20-marked German Cross produced by the Zimmermann firm, in fine condition, housed in the original box, and a cloth version as well, complete with full backing and manufacturer tag. Also included is a 61 page memoir written by Siefert (translation assistance available), as well as the original preliminary award document, hand-signed by Field Marshall Keitel (not an aide or auto pen signature, but the original). Other documents include Seifert's EK1 document signed by a Division commander, his Eastern Front medal document, a full copy of the unit order awarding the medal to Siefert (and others), a note from his regimental adjutant and one from the regimental commander congratulating Siefert, the FORMAL document for the award of the EK2 (rare), and his 4-year long service award document. This group is worthy of considerable research. Obtaining the ancillary medals to augment the display would not be difficult at all. The memoirs alone are worth the price of admission!
The 256th Infantry Division (to which Siefert's artillery regiment was attached) fought in Operation Barbarossa on the front line assault during the invasion, then was transferred to Army Group Center. It was during the Eastern Front battles that Siefert received the German Cross in Gold.
