Rare Ortsgruppe flag for the Stahlhelm group Herbede, which is located in the Ruhrtal. The flag is constructed of 'Flaggentuch' (a strong and light wool specifically made for flags). The flag is an early example that was 'modernized' with the III. Reich version of their insignia during the period--you can see the Imperial eagle under the helmet/swastika roundel, and the earlier large Stahlhelm under the helmet/swastika roundel on the other side. The reverse side is black/white/red with "Bund der Soldaten" "Ortsgruppe Herbede-Ruhr" hand embroidered. Gold metal fringe is toned. The flag is still attached to the top half of the 2 part flag pole (the bottom section is lost to history), which retains its attachment fitting, and is mounted to the pole with a fancy secondary shaft as can be seen in the photos. The original streamers are also still tied to the pole. The top is gilded bronze or brass with a silver Stahlhelm in the center. There are some scattered moth bites to the wool and wear to the black finish of the pole, as can be seen in the photos. A very rare flag that dates from the early days of the Stahlhelm.
