When Mengele fled Argentina in 1959 to escape Mossad agents, he left the bulk of his business and personal papers with his personal secretary, Elsa Havarich.  These papers were seized her at a later date by the Argentinian government, where they remained in their federal archives.  Saved from destruction by a federal police officer during a clean-out of the archives, the passport, along with other ancillary documents and photos, were obtained by me directly from the police officer. Included with the purchase was a signed statement (and photographs of Havarich signing the statement) attesting to her prior ownership of the documents.
