Description

This is an 1848 Pattern dirk used by the German Navy. The German Navy was the maritime force of the German Empire. This dirk is a standard naval officer's dress weapon from the mid-19th century. The grip features a bone material with a distinctive naval anchor emblem on the cross-guard. The scabbard and fittings are brass with decorative motifs. This is the navy dagger "that started it all."  Dagger is in extraordinary condition given the 175ish years of age!  Blade is bright, with no polishing and only minor corrosion.  Brass hardware is excellent.  Note one break (and repair) on the lower area of the scabbard.  The scabbard throat is also loose and can be removed.  It will not fall out, however.  Dagger fits very nicely into the scabbard.
