This is an original World War I U.S. Army service coat, constructed of olive drab wool and retaining classic wartime tailoring with stand-and-fall collar, four-pocket front, and period buttons. The left shoulder bears the US First Army shoulder sleeve patch, WW1 period. Rank for this soldier is captain - metal captain insignia are pinned to the shoulders. This officer was in the Army Corps of Engineers, as denoted by the collar insignia. Minor mothing to the front, and one button missing. This coat was tagged "Bennet" and came from a museum. The uniform is not named, however. Sharpshooter pin is present on the left breast. The coat remains unaltered, with strong character and field-worn patina, and represents a highly collectible example of a genuine WWI American combat uniform associated with one of the most storied U.S. divisions of the Great War.
