The market is flooded with reproduction signs of all kinds, but this example is authentic and makes an excellent study of what original sign construction. This sign, which measures approximately 28 inches x 8 inches, is constructed of heavy steel. Reproductions are usually thinner, cheaper steel which makes no sense for outdoor signs, which would need to survive the elements without rusting and deteriorating! Enamel is thick, with slightly raised white lettering - fakes are usually not multi-layered. Sign shows minor age with a few scratches and scuffs, but is predominantly well preserved. Almost every city had an Adolf Hitler Straße, as well as a street named after most of the honored "top brass" - including Albert Speer. It's interesting to think what sights this sign could relate of things that transpired beneath it!
